Steve Wahrer was a drummer and co-founder of the American rock band The Trashmen. He was born on November 1, 1941, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, and grew up in the Minneapolis area. Wahrer, along with Tony Andreason, Bob Reed, and Dal Winslow, formed The Trashmen in 1962. The band is best known for their hit song "Surfin' Bird," which reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1963.
Wahrer continued to play with The Trashmen until the late 1960s when the band disbanded. He worked as a designer and manufacturer of custom drum sets for a time, before reuniting with The Trashmen in the 1980s for several reunion tours.
Steve Wahrer passed away on January 21, 1989, at the age of 47. His legacy lives on through the music he created with The Trashmen, which continues to be celebrated by fans of surf rock and garage rock.
